A Portrait of Breast Cancer:

Expressions in Words and Art

When a women is diagnosed with cancer, she immediately begins to search for comfort in many places.  Hearing from other women who are facing, or have faced, the same thing provides a great source of peace.  This book was created to be that source of peace.

Originally created in 1996 to be a fundraiser for Project Woman Coalition, this book is filled with stories, pictures, and artwork by Oklahoma women and their families who have faced breast cancer.  The committee responsible for this book has now begun to take a new approach to dispersing the book.

The main objective of the book has always been to provide comfort to recently diagnosed women.  We are now becoming more proactive about getting the book into the hands of these women.  In order to do this, books are going to be given to clinics, cancer support groups, and healthcare providers who meet with these women early in their diagnosis.  These groups are excited to give the books away and feel they will be beneficial.
